Observatorium Astronomi ITERA Lampung (OAIL) rutin melakukan pengamatan objek astronomi seperti bintang, gugus bintang, nebula, planet dan objek lainnya menggunakan teknologi yang dimiliki OAIL ITERA. Pengamatan dilakukan menggunakan beberapa metode, diantaranya\u00a0astrofotografi\u00a0atau mendokumentasikan objek dalam bentuk foto, menggunakan\u00a0teleskop\u00a0jenis\u00a0Meade LX-90 8&#8243; SCT-ACF\u00a0yang dilengkapi\u00a0kamera khusus.<\/p>\n<p>Selain untuk mengetahui fenomena astronomi yang terjadi, pengamatan astronomi bertujuan untuk\u00a0menambah kemampuan dan kompetensi\u00a0para asisten OAIL, hingga media praktik para mahasiswa dan dosen Program Studi Sains, Atmosfer dan Keplanetan (SAK) ITERA. Pengamatan juga kerap melibatkan para anggota Komunitas Astronomi Lampung (KALA).<\/p>\n<p>Ke depan OAIL ITERA juga akan memiliki program pengamatan astronomi seperti pengamatan untuk pengukuran\u00a0<em>seeing\u00a0<\/em>dan<em>\u00a0ekstingsi<\/em>\u00a0per bulan. Pengamatan akan dilakukan dari lingkungan Kampus ITERA\u00a0maupun di\u00a0lokasi Observatorium Astronomi Lampung (OAL) di\u00a0Gunung Betung. Lewat pengamatan tersebut, para peneliti dapat mengukur kualitas optik atmosfer yang ada.<\/p>\n<p>OAIL ITERA juga terus berjejaring dengan para peneliti astronomi dan pengelola observatorium lain.\u00a0 Sehingga jika ada fenomena seperti supernova atau transit atau okultasi bintang oleh asteroid tim OAIL ITERA akan mendapatkan pemberitahuan langsung dalam telegram astronom untuk bersama-sama melakukan pengamatan. Untuk saat ini salah satu fenomena yang paling ditunggu adalah fenomena gerhana matahari sebagian yang akan melewati wilayah Lampung pada 26 Desember 2019.
